Deep-Tier Supply Chain Finance

Publication | September 2022

This brief explains how deep-tier supply chain finance (DTSCF) can help small and medium-sized enterprises access much-needed financing and at the same time contribute to environmental, social, and governance goals.

The brief outlines the opportunities that DTSCF and its underlying technology can offer, provides a sample of models that have been successfully implemented, and assesses the challenges and solutions to its global expansion. It finds that legal systems need to be more receptive to DTSCF and other digital forms of trade, greater incentives are required to speed the uptake of DTSC, and banks and companies need to agree on interoperable technology.
