This brief explains why civil society organizations (CSOs) in Asia and the Pacific have an important role in helping address the health, social, and economic crises caused by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.

With decades of experience in public health, immunization, social protection, and livelihood support, CSOs in the region can complement government response efforts, especially at the local levels. They can expedite implementation, increase inclusion, and enhance transparency and accountability. The brief suggests a framework for effectively engaging CSOs in COVID-19 response programs.
