This paper aims to examine economic interdependence and balancing power politics, and their mixed implications for regional institution building in East Asia based on the concept of common security.

This paper addresses the core issue of finding effective ways to consolidate the political and security foundations of Asia's economic prosperity. It examines the intertwined effects of economic interdependence and power politics, and the mixed implications for regional institution building in East Asia based on the concept of common security. Policy recommendations on a new regional security order are presented.
