Transport projects need to be designed for tomorrow's reality, not today's. They can take years to plan and build and are then in operation for a much longer period: decisions during the concept and design phase need to consider changes that could happen in the years ahead. This study sets out emerging trends that are likely to impact the future of transport services. It also provides draft visions of what future transport strategies could look like, up to 2050. Together with trend cards and a playbook, it aims to help countries apply futures thinking to envision what types of transportation systems, networks, and infrastructure would be needed to realize their preferred futures.
