Gender equality and women’s empowerment are critical for achieving economic growth, reducing poverty, and supporting socially inclusive development. ADB continues to demonstrate committment to women's empowerment.
ADB has achieved Gender Mainstreaming entry targets since 2011 and continues to demonstrate commitment to women’s empowerment by increasing the target to 45% by 2016. ADB’s annual Development Effectiveness Review report shows the success rates of project operations, including projects delivering successful gender equality results. ADB’s 3-year average rate of completed operations delivering the intended gender equality results increased from 49% in 2012 to 55% in 2013, to 60% in 2014 and to 70% in 2015, achieving the 70% target set in 2013 for the first time.
