Compiling Granular Population Data Using Geospatial Information

Publication | December 2021

This paper compiles granular population data for the Philippines and Thailand, demonstrating cost-effective ensemble methods that can support public sector planning.

The paper estimates population density on a 100-meter by 100-meter grid level, providing granular spatial information. Such forecasts can complement census data and facilitate the updating of outdated information in a cost-effective way. They can indicate where help is most needed in situations of crisis and where new facilities like schools and hospitals should be located.
