Asian Development Bank and India: Fact Sheet

Over the past 3 decades, millions of people in India have benefited from improvements to basic infrastructure and services brought by ADB-supported development initiatives.

ADB has approved 205 sovereign loans totaling $35.1 billion since 1996 for India. The current portfolio includes 87 sovereign loans amounting to $13.2 billion. India was a founding member of the ADB and is now the fourth largest shareholder. ADB will continue to direct its support to India through the three strategic pillars of the country partnership strategy: inclusive growth, environmentally sustainable growth, and regional cooperation and integration.

The proposed 3-year lending program for India outlined in the country operations business plan 2017–2019 will contribute to inclusive economic growth, and nearly two-thirds of the proposed program will support environmental sustainability.
