ADB operations in the Maldives have recently focused on energy, transport, public sector management, and private sector development.

ADB has committed resources to help upgrade the country’s commercial and domestic harbors, ensure reliability of power supply to the capital and outer islands, boost economic growth, and reduce regional disparities in living standards. To assist the Maldives in achieving carbon neutrality and reducing high fuel costs, ADB is supporting sustainable energy development. ADB is also providing assistance to improve energy regulations and policies in the Maldives.

ADB has been supporting the Government of the Maldives since 1978. It has approved 29 loans and grants totaling $248.53 million for the Maldives, and has funded 67 technical assistance projects totaling $29.65 million.
