This paper analyzes the evolution of the nonbanking financial company (NBFC) sector in India, including the drivers of the sector’s rapid rise and subsequent challenges in extending credit.

In an attempt to understand the sector’s impact on the country’s, this paper also discusses factors contributing to the 2018 crisis. It also touches on current trends, in particular the potential impact of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on the NBFC sector.
