ADB operations in Sri Lanka adjust to align with the evolving needs of the country, which is reaching upper-middle income status.

Sri Lanka’s government is adopting a development policy appropriate to upper-middle-income status. Ensuring quality growth will become important in ADB operations while facilitating further economic growth.

The country operations business plan 2017–2019 for Sri Lanka continues to take a holistic, program-based approach, using multitranche financing facilities and results-based lending as financing modalities, as appropriate. ADB has worked closely with the Government of Sri Lanka since 1966 and has approved cumulative lending, grant, and technical assistance totaling $8.4 billion.
