This project brief analyzes the impacts and benefits of Sri Lanka’s ADB-funded Integrated Road Investment Programs (iRoad) to improve connectivity between rural communities and bolster socioeconomic progress.
Showing how poor infrastructure limits market access and holds back rural livelihoods in Sri Lanka, it explains why management capacity needs to be ramped up to ensure improved roads are well maintained. It assesses the selection criteria and context-sensitive project design while outlining the need for digital platforms to track progress of the complex iRoad schemes which it shows are having a positive impact on rural development.
