Asia Pacific Youth Symposium discusses the new normal post COVID-19

VP Bambang Susantono on 12 August 2020 delivered the opening remarks of the Asia Pacific Youth Symposium (APYS) celebrating International Youth Day. APYS is a series of knowledge sessions on youth economic empowerment and the 'new normal' impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. More than 700 registered participants interacted via Zoom in the first session, with an additional of about 2,500 joining via Facebook Live from across 40 countries.

ADB Youth for Asia and ImpactHub Manila hold record-breaking hackathon

ADB Youth for Asia and various ADB departments partnered with ImpactHub Manila in holding a hackathon on 30-31 October 2019. The event aimed to promote youth entrepreneurship and seek innovative solutions on issues related to agriculture, climate change, health, education, and smart cities. The initiative broke the Philippine record for the largest 24-hour hackathon ever held, with over 4,000 participants from 15 cities across the country.

The Vice-President, in a keynote speech at the 2-day conference on 31 March in the ADB headquarters, highlighted the benefits and challenges of achieving skills mobility for an interconnected ASEAN community. The event discussed barriers and enabling factors in the realization of skills mobility to achieve greater integration in the region.

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III on 13 January gave a keynote address at the conference on Sustaining the Gains of Conditional Cash Transfers in the Philippines hosted by the Department for Social Welfare and Development. ADB organized the SPI workshop on 10 December in Kathmandu. Government officials and development partners provided insights on the use of SPI for policymaking in Nepal.

Social protection index dissemination workshop in Viet Nam

ADB co-organized with the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs the dissemination workshop on SPI on 26 November in Ha Noi. Government officials and development practitioners from International Cooperation Department, Social Security, Vietnam Post, and research institutions provided insights on the utility of SPI for policy-making in Viet Nam.

Training on designing social protection interventions for developing countries

RSDD held a training course on 3-5 September in HQ for ADB staff and DMC government officials as part of the implementation of the Social Protection Operational Plan. Modules, developed in collaboration with the Social Development and Poverty CoP, addressed the design and implementation of social protection interventions.

Social protection index dissemination workshop in Mongolia

ADB presented the methodology and results of the SPI to key stakeholders on 26 June in Mongolia. Officials from the ministries of finance, population development and social protection, social insurance, gender equality commission, and national statistics office participated in discussions. MNRM staff and development partners from JICA and World Bank also attended.
